Maybe I Should Buy a Lottery Ticket

Today was a very lucky day for us.  The builder delivered our appliances to the new house this morning and began installation.

The lucky part was what did not happen.  Since we bought the appliances through DirectBuy, we could not control the delivery schedule as we would had we bought them from a standard retailer.  So the builder was kind enough to offer to store them in his warehouse and had been doing so for for a month or more.

Timing is everything.  The appliances arrived at our new house in two loads before 11 AM.   About 3 PM the builder called and told me that his warehouse burned shortly after noon today and destroyed most of the contents.  We missed losing our new appliances by only a few hours!

Now you understand why I am considering buying a lottery ticket.

Tiling Completed

The tiling is now essentially complete.  One of the last things to be done was the decorative tiling on the fireplace and hearth.

A/C Compressor Installation

The air conditioner compressors, one for the first floor and one for the second, have been installed.  The design of the house with porches on three sides and a carport on the fourth made locating the compressors difficult.  There was only one possible location adjacent the carport.  That made access to the carport on the back side a bit difficult, but we relocated the support posts to open it up and protect the compressors.

When the compressors were charged with refrigerant, a new one called Puron, there was a leak!  Turns out one of the nails securing the siding had puncture the line in the exterior wall, and the did not have to do much tearing down to access it and repair it.

The air conditioners were a priority since the house needs to be de-humidified before the wood flooring can be laid.  That is occurring as we speak, and the floor will be installed in the next few days.

Driveway Pour

The builder decided to pour part of the driveway so he could install the air conditioner compressors.  The compressors, one for the first floor and one for the second, will sit on the same paved area adjacent the driveway.  Only the front and back entryways to the carport were poured.  The main drive from the house to the street will be poured later.
