Unusual Pine Tree

I was driving down the same road I have driven for 10 months, but for the first time I noticed a strange looking pine tree.  It was the usual tall slender pine, but it had a number of small, dark, bushy branches growing from the trunk below the main branches.  It looked like a small, separate tree of a different species.  I'm not quite sure what to make of it.  Maybe I'll send he photo to a forestry professor at Stephen F. Austin State University to see what they say.
